it Started with a hook

My love for crocheting began on a sunny afternoon when I was about five years old. My grandmother, a skilled artisan with a warm smile and a knack for crafting, sat me down on the porch with a colorful array of yarns spread out before us. As the gentle breeze rustled the leaves, my grandmother patiently taught me how to hold the hook and weave the yarn, turning it into beautiful stitches.

Each loop was more than just a knot; it was a connection—a bond between generations. I  listened intently as my grandmother shared tales of her own childhood, how she learned from her mother, and how each piece of crochet carried a story. We created everything from cozy blankets to whimsical stuffed animals, and each project was an adventure that brought us closer together.

As the years passed, my skill grew, but so did my appreciation for the tradition. My grandmother became my mentor, guiding me through patterns and techniques, always encouraging me to add my unique touch. The art of crochet transformed from a simple hobby into a cherished ritual that I carried with myself, weaving memories into every piece I crafted.

Now, with my grandmother watching over me from above, I use my crochet to bring warmth and comfort to others. Each stitch reflects the love and wisdom passed down to me, reminding me that creativity is not just about creating—it's about sharing stories, memories, and a piece of oneself with the world.

  • I took over the name Old Hooks New Stitches in December of 2014 when my grandmother stopped selling in a small town in Iowa. She donated her old hooks to me and supported me taking over the business. She was my biggest supporter.

  • I learned to knit in 2011 and love to make more detailed items such as blankets and scarves. But as of the moment, I haven’t touched my needles in a while.

  • I wish that I could, but I actually am a full-time college student, am trying to work full-time and run the business. Needless to say, without the support of my husband, I’d be lost.
